Bible Verses that Helped Me Through My Grief

“In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life…I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.” 1Samuel 1:10-16 NLT

“I love you, Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
and I have been saved from my enemies.
The cords of death entangled me;
the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
The cords of the grave coiled around me;
the snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called to the Lord;
I cried to my God for help.
From his temple he heard my voice;
my cry came before him, into his ears.” Psalm 18:1-6 NLT

“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1Peter 5:6-7 NLT

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:4 NLT

When God Calls Little Children
When God calls little children
to dwell with Him above,
We mortals sometime question
the wisdom of His love
For no heartache compares with
the death of one small child
Who does so much to make our world,
seem wonderful and mild
Perhaps God tires of calling
the aged to his fold,
So He picks a rosebud,
before he can grow old.
God knows how much we need them,
and so He takes but a few
To make the land of Heaven
more beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult still
somehow we must try,
The saddest word mankind knows will always be “Goodbye.”
So when a little child departs
we who are left behind
Must realize God loves children,
Angels are hard to find.

My Preemie Son
I stared paralyzed before the whole world of your incubator,
Stare at you without blinking,
Hoping my discomfort will help you somehow.
Take deep breaths into my lungs,
Trying to breath for you, every inhalation a prayer,
Every exhalation,
Heavenward

Native American Legend
A butterfly lights beside us
Like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment It’s glory and beauty
Belong to our world.
But then it flies on again.
And though we wish it had stayed,
We feel so lucky to have seen it.

Angel Without Wings
Lying in my arms as I look down upon your face
you have an aura all your own.
Peacefully your spirit begins to join with mine and I know that we will never be done.
You are such a precious gift of love, more than I feel that I could ever deserve.
But in gratitude for your sacred birth is my Saviour who I will try to serve.
Although trying times may come and go, know that no matter how bad life seems.
I will always remember you, my blessed baby angel born without wings.

Come To Me
God saw you were getting tired,
And a cure was not meant to be.
So he put his arms around you,
And whispered, “Come to me.”
With tearful eye we watched you,
And saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

God’s Hand Is Always There
I am perplexed and often vexed
And sometimes I cry and sadly sigh,
But do not think, dear Father above,
That I question You or Your unfailing love.
It’s just that sometimes when I reach out,
You seem to be nowhere about,
And while I’m sure You love me still
And I know in my heart that You always will,
Somehow I feel I cannot reach You,
And though I get on my knees and beseech You,
I cannot bring You close to me.
And I feel adrift on life’s raging sea.
But though I cannot find Your hand
To lead me on to the promised land,
I still believe with all my being
Your hand is there beyond my seeing.

Grieving Parents

We are grieving parents
We are parents that get forgotten.
We know not of skinned knees,
We know not of 2 A.M. feedings.
We know of sleepless nights,
Yet for different reasons.
To some we are not parents.
Yet we have lived a parents nightmare.
To some our loss is a fleeting thought.
Yet to us it is a lifetime.
My life has changed forever,
I am thankful for those who have helped,

Those who let me cry on their shoulder
Those who have cried on mine,
You have all helped
You are all my friends.
We will always be connected,
We share similar pain.
We are grieving parents.
