So, today I was reading in Philippians, which is becoming one of my favorite books of the Bible. Chapter four spoke to me last week about focus. We must focus our thoughts on all that is good and given from God. But today I read the same chapter and this verse stood out to me:
“Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me-everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.” Phillipians 4:9 NLT
Spiritual growth is ongoing, the word “keep” implies this. We need to keep putting into practice ALL we have learned, EVERYTHING that Paul modeled. I don’t know about you, but this is a difficult thing for me to remember. I find it depends on where I am at in my life, some seasons are more challenging than others.
In one of her studies, I heard Priscilla Shirer say something that has been tucked away for a while, and now I “get it”. I’ll paraphrase, basically, if we aren’t putting into practice spiritual truths or commandments that we learned from prior studies, we need to stop this one (Armor of God I think) and go back and redo that study.
How often do we read scripture or complete a bible study to say, “wow that was great, the Spirit spoke to me.” Then we put it away and don’t go back to what was revealed to us? We MUST “keep putting into practice all we have learned.”
