The book of James is one of my favorite books of the bible. I am beginning a study next week with co-workers on the book of James. This morning I decided to review and read Chapter 1. I have read it so many times, highlighted the mess out of the entire book. But this morning, a verse I have read a dozen times and not highlighted stood out to me.
“Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.” James 1:26 NLT I have heard about widows and orphans, and quite honestly, I thought oh that’s where the verse is about widows and orphans. After I read the entire verse the words pure, genuine stood out, as did “refusing to let the world corrupt you.”
God has been lighting a fire in me for a little bit now, I am craving His word more and more. How do we refuse to let the world corrupt us? I need to be IN the WORD more than I’m in the world. Be genuine or faultless and the NIV says. I am far from faultless, just ask anyone that knows me. Social media for some, has almost become a standard. I am SO guilty of it too, posting pics of vacations and putting the highlight reel out there. I digress, that is an entirely different blog!
Bottom line, listen to His Holy Word not society. Be IN the WORD not in the world.
