Reppin’ Jesus Y’all

It is my belief that currently in the age of social media, we have become far too comfortable with typing responses that most likely would never come out of mouths if we were face to face with someone. There is a level of anonymity when slamming someone from behind a computer screen. As for myself, I’m guilty. Sometimes, I even type out the response and then delete it. But ya’ know what? That nasty response reflected my heart. Grace is my favorite word in the bible because I have been given it so many times!

I was reading in 1 Colossians last night and this verse practically jumped off the page at me. Well, there were two, if you didn’t’ read yesterday’s blog “Love” check it out. The verse was:

“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” 1 Col. 3:17 NLT

Are there any words that stand out to you? Several did to me, “whatever” and “representative”, were the first words that popped for me.  WHATEVER I do, WHATEVER I say is so that I can represent our Lord and Savior. Y’all, this is where I got uncomfortable. A few blog’s back I mentioned the shame I had as the “old me”. I have watched our brothers and sisters in Christ write words on social media that are in NO way honoring Christ. I have snapped at people and said things that as an ambassador of Jesus, are mortifying. It doesn’t end there, we should also be “giving thanks” to Him in whatever we say or do. As I read those words, I felt a knot in my stomach. When I had a snarky, hurtful response to someone, did I follow it up with a “hey, thanks for letting me totally not show you Jesus. I know you said be patient and kind they will know us by our love, but whatever.”

Again, I am so thankful for our Heavenly Father’s love and grace. He is the most patient Father. Everything we need to know is so clearly spelled out in the scriptures. Well, sometimes it might be hard to understand which is why I have about five or six bibles in different translations. I just wanted to share these thoughts; I certainly needed the reminder.
