Our church is almost done with a 21 day fast and has had scripture readings and devotionals each day. It has been an awesome experience and I have been diving into my Bible more.
Lately there has a been a theme that God has been revealing to me. His sheep need to own their faith. In general, people have gotten where they expect churches to provide books and bible studies about the Bible. I am not saying that bible studies are bad, but I don’t understand why we read a book about reading the Bible. Shouldn’t we simply read our Bibles?
I am digressing…I personally struggle with knowing when to set my boundaries in “helping” people. I am empathetic by nature, it’s how the good Lord wired me. I want to help people. There have been many times where I try to minister to people (not out of pride), but they aren’t fully surrendering, being obedient or even putting forth an effort of ownership in their walk. A friend told me, it is up to me to show the door, and up to them to walk thru it. GREAT words!
In today’s reading out of Matthew Chapter 7, verse 6 struck me, “Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.” I have heard this verse many times, yet it really made sense today. I can try to show the way, but I am not giving up on them or being a “false Christian” when I no longer enable their behaviors. They must be a willing audience in order to hear what the Lord has to say, then to obey it. As I am writing this, perhaps it is pride? It isn’t about me bringing them to a revelation, it is about their openness to receive it.
